Amboyna burl is one of the most distinctive and sought after burl woods in the world. Heartwood ranges in colour from a golden yellow to deep red, and with beautifully contrasting, straw coloured sapwood. It is a very durable and highly decorative wood that works well and polishes beautifully.

Amboyna burls are very rare as they grow on approximately 1 in 100,000 Narra trees. These burl formations develop naturally over many years on the tree trunk.

Typical moisture content around 10%

Colour tends to darken over time with exposure to sunlight

Minimum size 7mm x 34mm x 130mm

The beauty of Burl wood is its radical and unpredictable nature. Along with the dramatic cats paw, birds eye and figured patterns come small fissures, bark inclusions, voids and other such burl characteristics. These attributs are not considered defects. Working with Burl wood is both challenging and rewarding. You should understand and accept these challenges as the rewards are almost always worth the effort.
