The spectacular pith flecks and line patterns found in Masur Birch ( Also known as Karelian Birch Burl ) are caused by the Agromyzia carbonaria beetle larvae attacking the cambium layer of the tree. The effect is a stunning almost 3 dimensional flame like fleck. Easily worked and takes a good finish - Very popular for traditional Scandinavian knives.

These are standard grade, which fell below the requirements of our highly figured blocks - Basically, they will typically have one or sometimes two nicely figured sides with the remaining sides being more plain. Offered here at a great value price, making them ideal for general purpose utility work knives ,etc. but not for exhibition standard finishes.
